Pull the trigger…

There I stood, surrounded by concrete, closed in and cold, trying to absorb the simple instructions given to me by my man (AKA my husband). Making the gun safe. Practice. Practice. Practice. The requirement? To get comfortable with shooting the weapon. Feeling the kick. Feeling the power. Feeling the emotional impact of understanding the damage that could be done. Safety. Stance. Two hands. Aim.
BANG!

Adrenaline surges through my chilled shivering body, blood pumping, lungs expanding hard against my ribs, feeling the explosive pressure.
BANG!

Nothing on the target yet.
BANG!

Feeling it.
BANG!

I can do this.
BANG!

I could get used to this.
BANG!

One hand.
BANG!

It’s ironic that the only control one has is the direction the weapon points and when to pull the trigger. The rest is left up to the bullets projectile, the elements, its physical characteristics and of course its velocity!

Much like our lives I guess. Often so afraid we will miss the target, look incompetent (like releasing the actual cartridge while pulling the trigger and of course causing the gun to jam – yes, been there and done that #facepalm!) or even cause destruction often due to ignorance or too little knowledge. Too afraid to just try because of what someone might say or see. Sound familiar? Of course it does!

What if we just looked up for a moment? Looked directly ahead. Focussed on one simple easy target and then just pulled the trigger so to speak? Just one small idea or thought, simply to see its trajectory and outcome. Nothing else.

So what if the target is missed. What would you do if you actually did hit the target? There is a 50% chance either way. If you are a poker player then these odds are great and one would probably not think twice about increasing the stakes. The potential outcome far outweighs that moment of loss.

I’m not saying it is easy. There will always be distractions around us, other ‘bangs’ going off causing distractions and maybe uncovering fear and disillusionment. But should we not celebrate with our family, friends and colleagues just because it takes guts to pull that trigger? Its hard core!

The reality is the more you do it the easier it becomes, even when you miss or make a fool of yourself (remember my facepalm moment!). Despite the size of the gun, the bullet or the target! Why hesitate? Why compare? Its what you do with your life that matters. It’s the dream you dare to live. It’s the faith you choose to fight for. Nothing else. And this is mine!

  1. Truly inspiring, you will never know how much you can accomplish until you try. I think many a times we are too focused on what people will say and enslaved by our fears that we dare not try. Miracles will come in undefined moments, and that moment is here…!

PS: beautifully written, thought provoking and thank you for sharing your story with us.
